Mark Smith is a professional English table tennis coach and player from Bradford in Yorkshire. He started playing table tennis at 10 years old and became the Home Nations Schools Champion when he was 16 and 19 years old. Mark then went on to captain Yorkshire (his county) and Darlington Table Tennis Club (his club) to become national team champions in 1997 & 1998. Mark played table tennis professionally in France, Belgium, and became the Western Australian champion in 2004. In fact, he is a 4-time English national champion at junior and senior level. He also worked as head coach for Ernest Bevin College in London as part of the Greenhouse Schools Charity, Mark trained a group of young players up to national and international level winning numerous national junior titles in the U11, 13, 16 and 19 age groups.
Mark moved to Alkmaar in 2012 (with his dutch wife and children) to continue his coaching and playing now playing for Tempo Team in the ERE divisie men’s national league. Mark is passionate about developing table tennis in the Alkmaar and Bergen area, working closely with Alkmaar Table Tennis Club – Alkmaar 71. He also runs a junior table tennis club Ping Pong Alkmaar where many players from ESB play.
