Last week 13 students from Primary and S1 represented ESB in the qualifying rounds of the “Dutch Primary School Christmas Chess Cup”. Approximately 100 schools in total entered the competition. The ESB Team came 4th in the qualifying round, narrowly missing out on 3rd place. However they were given a “Wild Card” place in the finals yesterday.
The team came 10th overall, making ESB the 10th best chess school in the Netherlands! That’s a great achievement, especially as there hasn’t been the opportunity for much training this year. A huge thank you to Jasper Dekker, the PA Extra Curricular Activity chess instructor, for his commitment to the children and for organising the ESB entry.
[:en]The Parents’ Association supported the nursery & primary event on 15th December by providing warm festive refreshments and cookies in the P3,4,5 playground after the sing-a-long. All primary & nursery families were welcome.
The event was received well by pupils, parents and teachers alike. The combination of the sing-a-long and the refreshments proved highly successful and there was a real feeling of togetherness and of festive cheer.
The secondary students’ council organised the secondary Live Aid event on 16th December in the AULA another memorable event to mark the end of term in secondary.
